I made a flying visit (no pun intended – it was a quick visit due to us being way behind schedule!!) to the Maternity Hospital, Souissi, in Rabat, Morocco on August 9th.
Dr Sanae Abakka, a senior trainee in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, showed me around the delivery suite and high risk antenatal ward, which together cater for about 16,500 deliveries per year from Rabat and the surrounding areas.
The main reason for maternal death in here is postpartum haemorrhage (massive bleeding after childbirth)
